Recently had a mechanic check my clutch in my 1997 Ford Escort. He replaced the clutch but said just the
bearing was bad. The speedometer sensor now does not work. Why would this suddenly fail and is he responsible for this?

not neccessarily, i've been in situations with customers, when after i repair a vehicle, something else goes wrong, and it had nothing to do with anything i did. then again, i would take it back to him and have him make sure he didn't leave the sensor unplugged. under your circumstance, it sounds like he possibly left the speed sensor unplugged.

Suggested Repair

Return the vehicle to the mechanic and have him check whether the speed sensor was left unplugged.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1997 Ford Escort says the speedometer sensor stopped working after a mechanic replaced a bad clutch bearing. The expert says the failure is not necessarily related to the clutch work, but recommends returning the car so the mechanic can verify the speed sensor was not left unplugged.
