1993 Ford Escort Lacks Fuel

My car seems to have problems starting. It does not matter wether the engine is hot or cold. The car also seems to jerk when driving, almost like its not getting enough fuel, then it get to much. At the same time the car seems to lack power, especially when going up an incline. When I down shift to accelerate I hit the reve limiter but when I shift up I do not have enough power. I have to reve the engine higher then normal to take off but yet do not gain speed very fast. Sometimes the idle is ruogh as well. Please help!

Hello, sounds like you might need a tune up(new plugs, and wires). I don't know when was it done last. It possibly might be a bad fuel filter or clogged injectors. If those things checked fine check your timing. It might have jumped time since the timing belt had to be replaced at least once due to the high mileage. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.
