Why do you say voltage regulator? Is the battery light coming on?
My belief is the idle air control valve (IAC) is the issue, but like I said, a vacuum leak can cause the issue too. The IAC is responsible for maintaining the engine idle speed. With the AC on, there is an added load on the engine. As a result, the computer should adjust the IAC to compensate for the extra load. If the IAC isn't working properly, the engine may stall at an idle.
