I have a 1989 Dodge Pickup D100 V8 automatic w/ 140,000 miles. Truck was running fine until I broke my foot and it has sat for 6 weeks. Went to start it & it won't start. It cranks fine. Tried a little spray of engine start but even that didn't help. Replaced the coil, distrib cap, rotor plugs and plug wires. Still nothing?
Attached a wire from the positive post of the battery to the positive terminal of the coil. IT STARTED! However, disconect the wire & it shuts down. Not sure where the positive wire originates from (goes into a harness of many wires). Am I safe in wiring the coil direct and just leaving it?

Sounds to me that your ignition switch or relay is bad. Dont just wire it together that could cause countless damage to the vehicle and possibly you.
