I understand you can buy a AC recharging gas system at auto parts stores. Can you tell me how this recharging system works.

it comes with i think three cans of R-134 and a connecting hose. if you connect it on the high pressure side it might blow up in your face. so take it to someone who knows how to do it and be safe. it's always best to get a pro to do anything like this. it's a 98 and already out of freon, could need more than you think....good luck and be safe..vandragon

Suggested Repair

Do not use a store-bought R-134a recharge kit yourself. Have a professional diagnose and service the A/C, since connecting to the high-pressure side is dangerous and an empty 1998 system may have a leak or need more than a simple recharge.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1998 Dodge B1500 van asked how a parts-store A/C recharge kit works. The expert said kits typically include R-134a cans and a hose, warned that connecting to the high-pressure side can be dangerous, and recommended professional service because an empty system may need more than a recharge.
