Engineers can't make anything reliable today. Lights used to be controlled with a simple effective switch. Now they are controlled by the body computer.
First of all, if your battery is a few years old, it's possible the system voltage dropped a little more than normal from sitting for a few days. Computers can not tolerate low supply voltage, and will do weird things. If you have remote keyless entry that flashes your lights, or your body computer is programmed to leave the lights on for a minute after exiting the car, your issue is likely computer related. It may never happen again. If it does, measure the battery voltage with a digital voltmeter before starting the engine. It should be around 12.6 volts. Just a taste lower shouldn't cause a problem, but by 11.5 volts or lower, strange things might happen. That would be the time to have the battery tested.
