1989 Dodge Dakota the truck dies

The truck wont run when then alternater is hooked up. But when its not hooked up then it runs like a charm.

Hi:
The alt is regulated through the ecm. Are you sure the alt is good? It sounds like something is shorted out in it. I concerned that it may have caused problems in the computer. Have you checked for codes?

Let me know. You may want to have it bench tested at a parts store.
