1996 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.3 liter, auto trans, 2 wheel drive, with 146,215 miles on it. I had to have the transmiission rebuilt recently, and the raidiator fan relay replaced. The fan relay malfunctioned, causing my engine to overheat, severely, didn't "blow" my engine, only my transmission. The mechanic I took it to replaced all of the following, 1 converter, 1 planetary set, 1 overhaul kit, 1 filter, 1 valve body, 12 qts of ATF, and the fan relay. Can a malfunctioning fan, caused by a bad relay cause the trransmission to overheat and "blow?"

Excessive heat can cause damage. There are cooling lines that go from the transmission to the radiator. Inside the radiator is a separate section for the tranmission fluid to be cooled. No Fan=no cooling.
