1997 Dodge Caravan van wont start

My van won't start and is continuously making this clicking noise with os without the keys in the ignition. It will start if jumped but will not stay running very long. Is this the alternator?

IS the battery dead in the van? And do I understand correctly that you hear a clicking without the key in the ignition?

I thought that the problem was a dead battery. But after charging it, it will hold a charge for a little while. Is it the alternator?

If the battery keeps draining, I would take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them check the alt and perform a load test on the battery. Most will do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket.

Let me know what you find.
