Engine shuts off but will restart after sitting 2 or 3 minutes

driving over bumppy road will cause the engine to shut off. Will restart after sitting 2 or 3 minutes

sometimes in a turn to the left engine will shut off. Will restart after sitting 2 or 3 minutes

went about a month without it shutting off. Now doing it again

seems like a coil getting hot. Cooling off
or
gas filter

someone suggested vapor lock

love these old vans but this one is getting me. Thanks, skip

I had similar symptoms and found brittle, nearly broken wiring at the the crankshaft position sensor; replaced the sensor and it runs fine. On the 3.3 liter engine, it's at the back left.

My Dodge Caravan stalls after I put it in reverse and/or drive while I turn my the wheel. Engine idle starts to go bad and it turns off. It will run good when it runs in a straight line, but as I slow down to make a turn it stalls. I also got a 41 code which is for the alternator field is not switching properly. Any suggestions will be gratefully taken. Thanks.

Hi:

It sounds like the alt may be going bad. As far as the engine, have you had the throttle position sensor checked? If it' bad, the car will run fine when you are giving it gas, but when you take your foot off the gas, it will have a bad idle and most times stall.

Speedometer erratic and engine stops momentarily. Speedometer goes to 100 then back to zero while driving. The engine shuts off for a second and then resumes.
It is quite disconcerting since I have a one hundred plus mile commute.

Sounds like a short in the speed sensor wiring. Check on the passenger side of the engine and see if the wiring harness has chaffed through and is rubbing on the edge of the cylinder head.
