So, I had a service engine soon light on throwing code 43 which was the knock sensor on driver's side plug had broken and fell off but during this whole situation I fixed that. The other day I was sitting at idle for about 20 minutes or so, then went to take off and as soon as I started to move forward it felt like the truck shut off. I then put it in neutral and hit the gas and it hasn't quite shut off yet it then made kind of like a knock noise then once again then shut off. I get out and notice I had a flat tire, so I changed that and unplugged my battery to reset light after fixing plug for knock sensor then got back in and it had been probably close to an hour or so, but it had fired right back up and I drove off and haven’t had an issue since. Last night I was driving down the road and it did the same thing as before just it shut off it seemed like but then I get to a stop put it in neutral and it did that knock thing again 2 or 3 times then shuts off all though this time it would not start back up it cranks over fine but doesn't sound like it wants to fire. Where do I start truck is stuck on the side of the road?

Hello, easy first check is to see if you have spark, I'm not sure what the other strange symptoms are yet, hearing a knock in the engine is not a good sign, it's a pretty old truck, but that may just be a fuel knock when it is getting ready to stall. Basically, that knocking noise could just be the engine igniting off of the remaining fuel that is in the engine. Which means we could still have spark, but we need to start checking to find out.

Here is a guide that will help with checking the fuel pressure as well because it may just be a fuel pump at this point:

I doubt it is compression but that is a possible cause as well.

But figure out what you're missing first, spark, fuel, compression. and then go from there.

Thanks
