I recently pressure tested and schemed both my block and cylinder head because my engine had overheated and started mixing coolant with oil. After scheming and pressure testing my block and cylinder head I bought a new gasket set. The engine was assembled, while running it we noticed that the coolant still mixes with oil. Even though a new gasket was installed. What could be causing this to occur? Could you also assist with torque settings for main and big end bearings?

Hi,

More than likely the head is warped so the head and block cannot actual seal to keep the coolant and oil separate. I would remove the head again and straight edge both the head and block to see if there is distortion.

I attached the main bearing cap torque specs. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks

Okay, the issue of it mixing coolant and oil is sorted now. We have a coolant leak that I cannot tell where it comes from. When I look underneath the car drips straight down the block and sump. I can't trace the source of the leak as it seems it is coming from above that. Could you have any idea where it comes from?

Hard to say an exact component because there are a few components that are routed all over the engine and it could be any of these. The best thing to do is pressurize the system using a hand pump to about 15 PSI and then start looking for the leak in that area. This way the engine will be cold so you can actually look without getting burned.

I guess I am not clear on how an external leak will cause the oil and coolant to mix? Or are you saying that you fixed the issue of them mixing and now you just have an external leak? If so, what was the issue with them mixing?
