I have 1990 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible. I just had it tuned up but there is still a problem. It still starts fairly hard and when driving it seems to buck or caugh like it ran out of fuel then it will just die when driving down the road. Example: I was out yesterday doing about 50 MPH when it started bucking and caughing, then died. Could it be a vaccuum problem? I changed the fuel filter under the car at the same time as the tune-up.

Hi:

It doesn't sound like a vacuum problem. To me it sounds lie a fuel pump may be going bad. After the car dies, does it start right back up? Also, does it seem to act up when the vehicle is under a load for a period of time? For example, while you are going up a long hill, does it die?

If that isn't the case, it may be a sensor. Is the service engine light on?

Let me know so I can better help you.

Joe.
It seems to run a little better when warmer up but not much. It doesn't need to be under a load to die but it will die going up or down hills. It idles bad, and tends to die a lot when stopped. It is hard to start after it dies but it always starts

To me it sounds like a map sensor. Is the check engine light on?

Joe,

The check engine light is not on. When I turn the key 5 times to geta code it flashes 12 which is for the battery which I just replaced other than that no check engine light. Question: What is the MAP sensor and what does it do?
