1993 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. Mileage 314,353

My car recently overheated and shut down. Come to find out the coolant connector was bad and had it replaced. The mechanic explained that I may have cause the head gasket to crack or blown cause of driving it when it over heated. What option do I have at a reasonable price. I am still able to drive the car but don't wanna make it any worse that what it is. Any suggestions? Does those high tempature sealers really work? Someone help me out here

If your up to it I would consider replacing the headgasket yourself if your mechanically inclined. As for using the gasket sealers I reserve those for usually intake or exaust not something as critical as the head gasket. How does the truck run overall? Strong? Have you kept up with maintenence?

Maintenance has been kept up. It runs not as strong as it once was. I replaced the coolant system connector and removed the thermostat. Its not overheating anymore but the power has gone down. At times, seems like as if it is about to shut off. So what else could be the problem and should I still have fear of a blown/cracked head gasket?
