I have a 98 chevy silverado z71, with a v8 350 vortec.
The engine and trani are bad. I found a 89 suburban with a working engine and trani, but I didn't know if they were compatable

NO. Even though the engine are 350's they are not the same. The 98 350 is called the L31 and the 89 350 is called the GEN2 350. The biggest difference is that the computer in the 98 is not compatable with the 89. A Vortec intake is totally different from any other chevy intake- and- it bolts up differently. This swap is possible but by the time you totally change the entire wireing harness and drive train, it would be cheaper to just buy a crate L31 350 and tranny.
