My 2001 s10 vortec v6 wouldnt start yesterday. My gas gauge read E which never happens. I thought someone had syphoned my gas and put a gallon in and it wouldnt start. I noticed that a rat or squirrel has eaten all the way through some wires on and around passenger firewall. These wires seem to go throughout the entire engine. I am soldering them back together, but here is my problem. I have 4 brown wires that only have 2 brown wires to join. I looked back both ways on the wire ducts, and there are not any more brown wires. All wires were eaten and bitten through in a 1/2" area. It is the hvac wires and are bitten through at the delphi pa6 gb20 gf10 connector. On each side of the break I have wires. 13 on one side and 15 on the other.2 extra brown ones on connector side. All 6 brown wires were eaten on and look identical to eachother (same everything;wght, color stripe, etc).

Is it possible they are running light wires. Without seeing it im recalling brown wires as running light wires. Try turning on head lights and see if they power up. Also brownish tan wires are also ground wire colors. Any way you can take a picture and upload it

Good picture but I cant tell exactly what those wires are. Did you try the headlights? Im still wondering why she wont start. This is tricky to get to the bottom of because we need something else to go on. Those connector numbers are not matching anyhing I have. Are any fuses blown? Which fuse? What doesnt work besides it not running? Any more info would really help me find the right schematic and better guide you

Ok. no fuses blown. after hooking all wires up with exception of the 6 brown wires, the truck started. i then idled and tried brown to brown a couple of times and nothing changed. everything worked ac to radio. the first day the gas gauge read empty but after the wires were repaired it worked(1/2 tank). test drove and it was fine. this evening i met my daughter and ex for my birthday dinner and came out to a dead battery. i open the hood and now i see he has come back and eaten through a purple wire that is in the same grouping of wires but a little nearer the dash. i repaired the wire and barely got the truck to jump start. something seems off electrical now. like it isnt grounded properly. in the a.m. i will check all places that may have been eaten and are keeping it from being grounded. this is unreal. thanks for responding, i will take more pics if needed. i uploaded a bunch, but i think they are in my profile. what kind of picture would help you best?

Here are even more pics. now everything is dead on the truck and the squirrel is now making a nest in our tundra. it appears to have the same wire wrapping as my work truck. we have a tree hugger in our house and talk of exterminating is causing another war world. i am currently going down the pos. and neg wires from battery and cleaning all grounds that i find. what else could it to be out of whack? i cant find a diagram of this harness to see what to do with the brown wires. like i said before, i have 2 browns coming from the back(ran along dashboard wall towards the drivers side firewall) but i have 4 brown wires waiting at the connector. nothing changes with any combination of the browns, so all are unhooked until i know what they do.look at the chili powder and cayene pepper. that doesnt work!! i put metal lathe under the truck engine and i dont think that worked either. one picture is the purple wire that was eaten yesterday. i repaired it and the truck started and ran 10 miles to dinner. afterwards, the electrical problems started.thanks for any input.

By accident I entered this as 2001, when in fact it's a 2002. Those colors dont match up. I know one of them controlled the gas gauge reading to show E. I am going to go up to a car lot and find another one to compare wiring.

That connector looks like C101, Engine Harness to Body harness.

The problem is you will need to do a bit of research on a couple circuits. The brown wires all have white stripes?
Each one is a separate system. Get them crossed up and you will likely blow the ECM.
In this instance you NEED to have the wiring in front of you. I have the factory manual in front of me for the 02 and it shows
White, Lt. Blue, Tan/White, Lt Green/Black, Purple,
Yellow/Black, Pink, White, Purple, Brown/White, Brown/White, Dark Green/White, Brown/White, Lt Blue, Dark Green and one empty.

The other side shows the same EXCEPT the second Purple is replaced with a Brown/White

See if those colors are OK. If they are then we can figure out which ones are which.

I had the same problem. Those are the right wires. I need to know the brown and white stripe wires location and what they are.
