Engine problem
1998 Chevy S-10 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 132000 miles

My truck has been hard to start lately. No matter what the temperture is outside or the temperature of the truck it still cranks over slowly. I recently changed the oil, spark plugs, spark plug wires, crankshaft sensor, battery, and the fuel pump is less than a year old. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump and the starter engage but the truck turns slow at first then speeds up and seems to cycle slow to fast until the engine starts. Once started the truck runs fine with no problems. The check engine light only brings up a code for the crankshaft sensor. What is the problem?

Check for corrosion and loose connections, they may not properly sending enough voltages, also the solenoid could be starting to fail and the brushes in there are wearing, have the starter bench tested.

Well my friend you got unlucky when you changed your crank position sensor. Let me explain.
When your truck was started for the first time at the factory, your computer went through a learning process. One of the things it learned is the distance the crank position sensor is away from the reluctor ring attatched to your crank. This is the thing the sensor reads. This distance is in the thousandths of an inch. Sometimes, not all the time, when you change the crank sensor, the sensor is a little off and your computer must be re-taught this distance. Call your dealers service department and tell them you need a crank shaft position sensor relearning proceedure done to your truck. This should cure the problem.
