1989 Chevy S-10 starting vehicle

Truck will not start. Sounds like it wants to but wont. As soon as you spray starter fluid in the carburator the truck starts right up and runs fine.
i drove it 174 miles with it like this. What could it be?

Hello well this sound like a fuel pump going bad first check to see what kind of fuel presure you have if it only around 10psi or so then you have a bad pump. I hopr this will get you where you need to be.
