1989 Chevy S-10 failure to start

After putting on a serpentine belt and new battery, the engine fails to start. What is the problem?

Chances are you damaged the crank sensor. Have you checked to see if you are getting spark to the engine? If no spark is present, check the sensor. I believe yours is mounted to the timing chain cover near the harmonic balancer.
