1999 Chevy Lumina 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive

Car idles OK But when you rev motor or try to drive it cuts out and it won't go any faster than 20 mph. Check engine light came oncouple months ago and said egr valve but mechanic said it won't hurt anything you don't need to fix that now car won't run Can the egr valve be checked another way? Does this sound like that is what is wrong with the car? What else can I check?

It has nothing to do with the egr valve. I would check fuel pressure and then check for a restricted catalytic converter. Get back to us

First you need to check resistance of coils and make sure they are not open. You will need to also check the crankshaft position sensor but you will need a multimeter to do that. Check across connector on ac volt scale and while cranking you should have over one volt if not replace crank sensor

How do check the coil resistance? What do you mean open? Replaced the crankshaft sensors still won't start. More suggestions?

Use a multi meter on the ohm scale 20k then take one end of meter across the tops of the coil towers and read the resistance. They should all be almost the same if it is open then the meter will read nothing or o.L. (Out of limit) this means its open and needs replacement

I meant one lead of the meter on one coil tower and the other lead on the other coil tower
