1980 Chevrolet Corvette, 57000 miles, 350ci, manual tranny...
Everything was working good until recently, i installed a new stereo, and that night, i drove it. i turned the lights on, and the exterior lights came on, but the dash, and guage lights didn't. the bulbs are good. When i removed the stock radio, there was a grey wire in the back i didnt need that i grounded out. maybe it has something to do with the lights. I was wondering if there is a loose wire, a blown fuse?, or something else. Thank you.

I would recomend starting by checking the fuses. More than likely you have probably blown a fuse when you were moving wires around. make sure that you taped up the wires that you didn't use and make sure they are not touching something and grounding out....

The new stero is the problem. The hot wire you used for the stero was the lead to the dash panel. Reverse the installion of the wiring you did to put the stero in. Buy the repair manuel at pep boys. That show the stymatic of the wireing. To chose the correct feeds. The wiring system on GM cars are for GM options only. When you begin to alter the wiring loom you can open a large can of worms. Please disconnect the battery before you start. If you ground the wrong wire you could melt the circuit boards on the back of the insturment cluster and speedo and tach. Or start an eletrical fire.
Good luck.
