My 85 Corvette is not starting. I origingally thought it was a battery issue because the battery was not holding a charge. But after having an auto parts store charge it. Then carrying it by hand back to the car and seeing it was already at 10 volts.I bought a new one. I get a."Grinding" sound for about 2 seconds and no turn over. It sounds as if it IS trying. But giving up. HELP!

THE GRIND IS THE BENDIX DRIVE OR THE BUSINESS END OF THE STARTER, IT'S NOT FULLY ENGAGINg the the teeth on the flywheel. Replace the starter, and inspect the teeth on the flywheel.
