Most likely the regulator (mechanisim that window rides on) is binding.

About all you can do is try spraying silicone on tracks and try to free up mechanisim.

They will have to remove headliner to get to mechanisim.

My driver side windo will not go up or down. It will move about an inch at a time if you wait a few minutes between trys. I have looked inside the door and I don't see anything binding or broke. Do you think this is an electrical issue or a window regulator issue?

Hi,
I was recently in a car accident with my cavalier. I hit a tree. Did some damage to my front end, headlight/fender area, hood. My power windows on both sides, driver & passenger front don't work. They stopped working (after the accident). I am still able to drive the car. I told the insurance adguster I thought it was just coincidental so he didn't record it as any damage, however, I was told it might be possible the windows were damage on impact. I have not heard from tne insurance company yet and just want to make sure before I reopen the claim. What do you think? Is it possible and should I persue this repair it with the rest of the damage?
Thank you for any insight or advise.

I would add the power windows to the list, it is more than likely that the accident caused the problem, even if it is just a fuse.

My power windows in my 1999 Cavalier Z24 convertible don't work at times. DOesn't seem to be the window motors. Sometimes the drivers window can be lowered, then it won't go back up, I get no noise, nothing. Sometimes it happens on the passenger window, then they start working. I also noticed (once) a gauge light on for no apparent reason (anti-theft light I think) when I started the car and stayed on while I drove, had nothing to do with any engine gauges. The next time I started the car, this guage light was off. My battery was just tested and is fine.

Check for 12V at the window switch. It is also possible the limit switch is at fault, in which case you would have to remove the interior door panel and check it, also look at the regulator for binding/loose bolts.

If you have disconnected the battery recently, yo may have to reset the anti-theft system. Check your owners manual.

I have a 1998 Z24 Chevy Cavalier, 84,000 miles, 2.4 liter engine. I have automatic windows, but my driver side window does not always go up and down. Initially, I can make it go down, but when I try to make it go back up, it will only go about an 1/2 inch at a time every several minutes. If I physically push the window up, I can usually move it several inches at a time. It almost seems as if the motor has to "recharge" itself before it will go up and down and it's been getting worse. Is this a problem with the motor or something else? My passenger window works, but at times seems slow. Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds to me youre power window motor is starting to wearout, Soon it will just crap out, Usaully when the motor starts to weaken then its like a warning sign, Also I would take a look at youre window trackings, Could need some grease inside the tracks,
Also make sure youre battery and charging system is work properly. Fully charged.
Good Luck.

Manual window rolls up crooked, it seems like something is maybe missing. Do you know of a online diagram or picture of what parts and pieces should be inside?

Hi:
I'm sorry, but I don't know of any such web pages. It sounds like the glass is coming off track. Have you already removed the door panel? If so, what happens when you roll the window up?

If you need a picture of the parts, you may want to consider a manual for the car. It may be helpful.

Let me know about the above listed questions.

Joe

You will need to see if you are getting voltage to both motors. I have seen both motors fail at the same time. Unlikey, but I have seen it.
