Check Transmission warning comes on-car safe to drive

Hello, I was driving it today when suddenly the car beeped and the message "check transmission" showed up where the odometer is. I am planning to bring it to the shop tomorrow it is about a ten to fifteen minuted drive. My question is, is it safe to drive the car to the mechanic, or should I just have it towed?

If it is a local drive then you should be okay unless it goes in limp mode. Then you would be limited on how fast you can go.

I would like to know what codes they come up with, just don't want you spending money on unnecessary repairs.
