Engine Performance problem
1989 Buick Lesabre 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 215K miles

Upon leaving my driveway my Buick decided to die on me. This problem has occurred a few times in the past, however I was able to start the engine back up with no problem and go on my way. This time however, no go. The engine would turn and turn but wouldn't start. I left the car alone for around half an hour and tried to start it up. It started so I decided to take it out for a spin to McDonalds. While idling in the drive through, the car died. I waited a second and the car started back up. On the way home however, the car died once more while driving at a low speed (around 20mph). After a few failed attempts to start, the car had to be pushed home.

Do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

my car stalls at stop signs and traffic lights when I try to proceed from a dead stop. Then kind of hesitates when I restart it and get going again.

Check fuel pressure while the engine is running and when you can't start it. Also check for spark when it won't start.

This could be several things. First, the vehicle has the OBD1 diagnostic system. Locate the port and jump ports A and B using a paper clip. With the ignition key in the run position, the check engine light will begin to flash. Count the flashes to determine the trouble code stored. With that information, hopefully you will narrow down the problem. To me, it could be a couple things. A bad fuel pump, bad ignition module, crank sensor. There are many possible issues, so the trouble code should point us in the right direction.
