I have had this problem for two days now; I start the car, it turns on, but instantly shuts off. I try a few more times, let it sit for a few minutes, try again and it starts. The security on the dash is constantly flashing. I just tried to leave the key in the on position until all the lights on the dash turn off and it cranked right up. Not sure if it is a coincidence, or it is because it reset the computer. But the light is still flashing even while I drive it. Is my car starting problem because of the security? If so, is there a way to disconnect it? Get rid of it completely?

Hi,

Yes. The starting then stalling is a security indicator that there is an issue with the security authentication.

You should have codes in the system if you are able to get them scanned. That will help identify what the issue is. Unfortunately, there is no way to bypass it so you will need to address the issue.

You leaving the key in the ignition in the on position is a way of bypassing it. More than likely the key needs to be left in for a minute or up to 10 minutes before it allows the start. This is basically a way for the truck to prevent it from being stolen. A thief is not going to want to sit around and wait for it to time out.

Let me know what the codes are and we can go from there. Thanks

There was no codes that came up. If I were to do the reset by putting the key on "on" for 10 minutes 3 times, is there anyway that it can mess up the system anymore to where I wouldn't even be able to start it? At this point I just wait for the dash lights to turn off and it starts right up. I am scared to mess with it and cause myself more issues.

I have not seen this get messed up so it does not work. Basically, the security system is seeing an issue and by you putting the key in and waiting is a security procedure so it should always work. However, that can get inconvenient. I would just suggest having a new key programmed and see if that was your issue. Do you have a second key? Does it do the same with both keys?
