Hi,

Can you tell me the model? Is it a Grand Cherokee, a Cherokee, a Wrangler and so on?

Also. please confirm if it was the actual switch or just the tumbler (lock) assembly or both were replaced and if there is a security light staying on.

If possible, I need you to pull diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a link that explains how it is done on an OBD1 system such as this. No scanner is needed.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

The codes are a bit interesting; however, they are specific. First, all codes displayed are 2 digit numbers with a 4 second pause between codes. The lamp will flash until all codes are displayed then 55 (end test) will appear. So the 55 indicates it finished. Now for the other 2 codes.

Code 3 shouldn't exist but when I look it up, it indicates a ram (random access memory) failure. That leads me to the 63, that indicated a PCM failure. The two tie together.

Now, if you look below, I attached two pictures. The first one provides a description of the code (63). Pic 2 is the diagnostics to determine if it truly is the PCM. In this case, the 63 in conjunction with the 3, I suspect the PCM is bad. However, it can be confirmed with the test listed in pic 2. The problem is, it does require a scanner that is of OBD1 design. I work on cars every day and don't have one anymore. Although the test is somewhat simple, having the tooling is going to be the issue. You may end up having to contact a dealer or a shop you trust to see if it's something they could do for you or if they would lend you the scanner.

Take a look at the pics and let me know if it helps or if you have other questions. I wish I had better news.

Let me know if I can help.

Joe

I did a test on the starter relay with a test light first I did the ground. #30 lit up by itself then I tested the other 3 cranking the key none of them lit up. Then switched to positive terminal #85 and#87 lit up.#85 went off when I shifted out of park #87 stayed lit. #86 did nothing on both tests.

Hi,

I think the ignition switch may be bad. Pin 30 is battery voltage, so it should have power. Pin 85 should only have power if the vehicle is in park or neutral, so that's good. Please note that pin 85 is to ground.

No I have a question. You indicated that pin 87 lit up. That should only happen when you turn the key to the start position. Also, if pin 87 lights up, that should power the starter solenoid and engage the starter.

Now the problem is pin 86 which did nothing on both tests. That is the ignition switch pin. If you are getting nothing, you need to recheck the ignition switch you installed to confirm nothing has come loose, been damaged, or you may have even gotten a bad switch.

Take a look at picture 1 and picture 2. You will see what I am talking about.

Let me know if this helps.
