I have a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado C1500, 197,000+ miles. Recently my husband replaced the control for the turn signals in the steering column. Before we replaced this part, my wipers were working fine, the only thing that didn't work was the left turn signal. Once we got in there it was the "spring" on the left side that controls the left turn signal that was broken. After he put everything back together, I noticed my wipers quit working. I checked the fuse panel and found that the fuse was blown, so I replaced it. They worked one day and I went to use them again today, and no wipers, the fuse is blown again. Prior to us working on the steering column and the turn signals, there was another fuse that was not only blown but almost melted in half, if was for the dash lights. This fuse was also replaced. Is there a possibility it could be an electrical problem that is causing these fuses to keep blowing? :?

make sure that the installation of the switch was done correctly. go back and double check your work. if that appears fine. then you'll need to get a wiring schematic to see what else, if any, runs on that same circuit. it could be something totally different from the wipers that is faulty, but if it runs on the same circuit as the wipers, then it will keep blowing fuses until that problem is fixed. good luck on your repairs. i hope i made since

Suggested Repair

Recheck that the turn-signal switch was installed correctly. If the installation looks fine, use a wiring schematic to identify anything else on the wiper circuit, since a fault elsewhere on that circuit can keep blowing the fuse.

Conversation Summary

A 1994 Chevrolet Silverado C1500 lost wiper operation after the steering-column turn-signal control was replaced. The wiper fuse blew, worked briefly after replacement, then blew again; a dash-light fuse had also previously blown and nearly melted. The expert advised verifying the switch installation and, if it is correct, checking the schematic for other components sharing the wiper circuit.
