Frustrating problem!

Hello all:

I am new to this forum. I have an 1985 Buick Regal with a 3.0 litre motor in it, and it has about 170,000 kms on it.

What I can't figure out is that when the car has sat for more than 24 hrs and I try to start it, it is like it is flooded, and smokes and chokes like crazy for a couple of minutes, then runs fine. But initially to keep it running I have to keep my foot to the floor while it sputters and chokes.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Best regards

I think that model has a feedback carburator system. It soulds like the choke is sticking. When the engine is cold remove the air cleaner and give the choke mechanical linkage a good cleaning with carburator cleaner. If the choke has a wire connected, it may be a defective heating unit. Let me know

Thanks for the feedback

but the motor is a multi-port fuel injection, and I never thought of a defective heating unit.

Thank you

Most 85's are not fuel injected. It sounds like a fuel pressure regulator. It is the device on the fuel rail with a vacuum hose. Check the hose for leaks. It must have manifold vacuum to work. Let me know
