I need to replace my crankshaft balancer on my 3.8 liter, 91 buick regal. Problem is that I cannot get the bolt to break loose. I have used a 500 ft/lb 1/2" drive impact wrench but could not break it loose. Are these left hand or right hand threads on the mounting bolt? Any advice on how to loosen the bolt so I can change the balancer? Thanks Zeus

I just did that same operation. The trick is to use the special crankshaft holding tool(or a reasonable likeness) at the ring gear. then I got out the 3/4" drive breaker bar and a 6' length of pipe. that bolt didn't stand a chance.(a 1/2" impact gun will not get it,trust me)
