I have a 98 buick base park avenue and I bought it july 2009 from a private seller and within a month the car was overheating while I was on the expressway and by the time I got off and pulled over it cooled down so I thought, I tried to start it and white smoke blew from the tailpipes, I turned it off waited a while then I started again, coolant leaking all under the car everywhere, I turned it off and tried a little later and no start. I think the engine locked up. But I want to replace the engine but is afraid something else would go wrong after that. What seems to cause the overheating is my concern. As I might fry my new engine. Should I try my luck or forget the car?

It sounds like you may have blown a head gasket on that motor. If you replace the engine I would also replace the radiator just to make sure that didnt cause the overheat issue on the first engine. Once the new engine is in I would have a coolant pressure test done to make sure there are no leaks. Also while driving keep an eye on your temperature gauge. If the temperature gauge climbs passed normal turn the vehicle off before it overheats. To prevent this from happening again, and on other vehicles.
