You will most likely need to use a pry bar and gently pry up on the pump to get it lined back up. The belt will stretch just a bit and that should allow you to get it back through.

Recheck the timing belt installation. The timing mark could be off. Have the engine compression tested.

If engine had overheated due to a bad water pump in the first instance, you could have a blown head gasket.

On the 2001, do you have a seperate belt just for the alt? If so, you will need to loosten the mounting brackets on the alt. Once it is loose, there will either be an adjusting bolt (on some models) that can be tightened to adjust belt tension, or you will need to apply pressure to the alt by hand and tighten the bracket to keep it in place.

Let me know what you find.

Hey guys I’m new to the group and y’all have helped out a lot.

My question : I changed the alternator, battery, and all 3 belts last year around this same time and earlier this week I was driving and had to pull over because the car was making a weird sound. Got out and saw something leaking, looked like water. Got it to the house and when I popped the hood I noticed 2 belts were messing, the A/C belt and power steering belt. The power steering wheel is hard to turn. I’m going to replace it but what do you think could have been the issue or still is the issue if I’m changing the belt for the 2nd time within a year?

Hi,

There are several different things that can cause the belts to come loose. However, I have a favor to ask. We try to keep the threads specific to one topic. We will be happy to help, but I need to ask if you could start a new thread.

Here is a link to go to. Simply copy and paste your new question and we will help the best we can. I will keep my eyes open for your post.

I hope you understand.

Take care,

Joe
