I bought a 1995 GEO Tracker that runs on after you turn the key off. It has 150 compression on all Cylinders, new cap, plugs, wires. It has 100,005 mile on it. Any Ideas?

Either your engine idle RPM is too high or the timing could be advanced too much.

I suspect the Idle Air controller might need to be cleaned or replaced as it lets in air in the intake to control idle rpm's. It may even be a simple as the base idle screw has been adjusted so the RPM is high.

Suggested Repair

Check for high idle RPM and overly advanced ignition timing. Clean or replace the idle air controller, and verify the base idle screw has not been set too high.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1995 Geo Tracker reports that the engine continues to run after the key is turned off. Compression is even at 150 psi on all cylinders, and the cap, plugs, and wires are new at about 100,000 miles. The expert suggests the idle speed may be too high or the timing too advanced, and recommends cleaning or replacing the idle air controller or checking whether the base idle screw is set too high.
