So my alarm went off and when I came out to turn off, all I did was stick my key in door and turn then alarm went off. So next morning I came out and car did not start . I tried a process seen on YouTube of clearing security light. I believe it work cause it started to crank over ( which didn’t when I first tried ) , and sound like it wanted to start but then just shut off. Did it again and started but it shut off . So I assumed it was the fuel pump and change it . With a new fuel pump , it started and then shut off again. Tried starter fluid , and it backfired , but before that it started then shut off. I am not sure what else to do. Is there anybody that can help me and let me know how to proceed? Thank you

When It starts and just shuts off then it is the security system shutting it off. These year model GM vehicles will do that if the key is not learned into the system. Do you have a spare key to try? If not then you can try this process. Turn the key to the "on" position not "run". Turn it until the dash lights come on then leave the key in that position for ten minutes. Come back and turn the key to "off" then back to "on" and let it sit for ten minutes. Do this a total of three times. After the try, try and start the car.

Yes, I did that process , which I believe actually worked. When I first came out to start car after alarm went off , it did not want to start . After I did that ten minute process , it started then just shut off. That is why I assumed it was the fuel pump . After changing that, it is still starting then just shuts off. What else can I do ? Also my security light is not on when I have door closed and locked. It only goes on when I unlock and open door !

When the engine does not start do you have spark? If not these cars had a problem with the crankshaft angle sensor going out. Here is a guide that will show you how to change it out.
