Erratic idle and loss of power in gears?

The idle is erratic, up and down. Then suddenly it will shut off. Go to take off it bucks and stalls causing to change gears early.

1992 Chevrolet c3500.

Hi,

Have you tried to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes? This truck has an OBD1 system that doesn't require a scan tool to retrieve codes. All you need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip. Here is a link that explains how it's done. Try this and let me know what you find.

Also, let me know if there are any odd odors or smoke, and if the exhaust is blue, black, or white.
