Stalled while driving

I bought a new fuel pump and had it installed, it did not fix the problem. A garage said they couldn't find anything wrong. It runs but will quit while driving it at any speed. Sometimes you can crank and crank and it won't start. Still no engine light. I have heard that a breaker could be going out and cause this. It's like something causes it to just quit like stopping the glass fol or something?
Thank you
Tamara

As I was driving, my 2004 Nissan Xterra suv shutdown. When I tried to restart it, the car would crank but not start. The battery is relatively new and the lights work so I think it's not a battery issue. I also had the starter replaced about 5-6 months ago. Additionally the oil was changed at jiffy lube on Saturday 01/19/15. And the car was given a green light/ no problems. Up until the car shutdown it ran fine (I even drove to work and back home with no problems). I had to get my car towed home because now it wont crank over. Do you have any possible solutions? My car is my main source of transportation and I need to get to work and back -- so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

It's the timing belt. Same thing happened to me about three months ago. I had replaced the starter and two weeks later, the car stalled at a red light and won't start again. Lights in the inside worked as well. Had to get it towed and turns out, that's what it was.

When motor is cold it will crank and run, hit the gas and has a little hesitation. When the motor gets running warm it won't idle right in gear and cuts off quite a bit and doesn't want to restart. It seems to idle ok in park or neutral for the most part. I replaced the motor a few months ago, piped in 2 of the 4 catalytic converters, replaced knock sensor and now the engine light is back on and it shows codes for the catalytic converter, mass airflow sensor and random missfire, the mass airflow seems to be ok. I tried to check fuel pressure but I can't get the truck to crank with the fuel pressure gauge hooked up, I unhook it and it cranked right up but the engine was cold like I said earlier once the motor gets running warm it doesn't want to run I have no idea what to do now and I need some help. Any ideas?

Check battery for condition including load test most places check for free. Clean throttle plate on both sides and iac hole with choke cleaner. Then scan for codes and let us know what they are number wise.

Last night I put $30 of gas into my Xterra (about 9 gallons of gas). I was almost to the point where the low fuel light would come on. After driving about 5 miles my Xterra stalled while waiting for a stop light. It did it again a few more times on the way home. This morning I put it into the shop and they ran tests and came up with nothing. But since it had 110,000 miles on it I had them do a tune up, replace the fuel filter and 3 belts. None of this had been done before today. After getting the Xterra back, I am still stalling some but not everytime I come to a stop. It will also stall sitting in the driveway and in park if I let it run for awhile sitting there. The rpms are about 900, just under 1000 and after a couple minutes it will drop first to about 500 then stalls. The mechanic said I could have water in the gas I got because before I put that gas in, it had never had a problem. Also while I was gasing up I notice a tanker refilling the station's tanks. He told me to put in some gumout fuel cleaner to dry up the water. Well I have put that in then filled up the gas tank. I drove about 40 miles tonight but still once in awhile it wants to stall. It does restart everytime with no problem. I am thinking either the mechanic is right that I got some bad gas or maybe something else is wrong. It is just weird that it started just after I got gas. I am now wondering if I should take it to the dealer instead of my mechanic or just wait to burn up this tank of gas and refill.

I have a 2000 xterra and am having the exact same problem. Can't remember when the problem started though in regards to getting my last gas. The first time the car stalled it started to shake. It's with a mechanic now and he's stumped as to what's wrong.

This is going to sound like a crazy question. But my car is having a bizaare problem. I have been having a problem with my car stalling while I am driving it. The crazy part is that this generally happens when it has either rained a lot, or when there is a lot of humidity in the air. The car will start up but almost feel like it is only running at 60 or so percent power. Within a mile from my house the car will stall out and die, either while stopped at a stop sign, or while driving down the road. Once it stalls out, it wont start back up unless I let it sit for an hour or so and come back to it. I have had the fuel pump replaced, which didnt take care of the problem and my mechanic currently thinks maybe it is the distributer cap. Honestly I am not sure if he really knows what is wrong. I tried another mechanic and he had no ideas either. Right now I just dont drive my car when it rains. But this is misserable. Any ideas?

Most causes of engine stalling or loss of power in high mosture or rain is arking plug wires or a cracked distributor cap--i would inspect and or replace the spark plug wires first

My vehicle just died at an intersection, I checked the oil level and it seems as there were water in it.

My vehicle won't restart but it does turn while attempting to start. There was never any sign that anything was happening.

Please help.

You will first need to see if you are getting spark to the plugs by removing a plug wire. If you have spark check to see if you are getting fuel. If no spark was found remove distributor cap and inspect rotor button note its position and crank engine to see if the button is turning, if it does not spin remove whole distributor checking to see if roll pin is in at bottom of distributor and distributor rotor spins when turning the gear at the bottom. If distributor checks out good im sorry to say you have a broken timing belt --xterras have an interference engine meaning serious engine damages most often happens when this belt breakes. Let me know how you do or if I can help

Check the fuel pump pressure (directions and video on our home page under the DIY section) Also, if the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free.
