Had my car NYS inspected and 6 month maintanance (oil change, tire rotation) done, the next day I was driving and I heard a loud noise under the hood. I saw oil leaking a lot, I had to drive 1/2 -3/4 of a mile to a safe place. As I pulled over and stopped the balance of the oil leaked rapidly out and the oil light came on. Turned car off and had it towed.
The mechanic put the "O" ring on wrong near the oil filter. The pressure made it burst open.
I was wondering if I could of damaged the engine with the low level of oil and driving?
How far can you drive with low level of oil?
The engine sounds a little louder then usual.

It takes only a minute or less to damage the engine when lubrication is missing. Whioever did the job has to be held responsible for this and if the noise is louder than usual, you need to monitor the situation.
