The computer says there is a problem with the primary coil circuit so you need to look at it again.

2003 Pt. Crusier turbo automatic has a rough idle and sounds like a misfire when in park or when in gear at a stopped position. Seems to run fine when in park when you hit the gas or when you are driving. Use premium gas all the time. Seems to take 8 to 10 seconds after you start the car before it starts to run rough. Put new plugs and wires on, didnt help. Took it to the dealer, they did all there tests, couldnt find the problem. No check engine light comes on. Cant find any vaccum leaks either.

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following-inspect and test all the following below:
1. Defective spark plug.
2. Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4. False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Throttle position sensor.
11. Idle air control valve.

That is good. You also had a lean code so make sure you did not leave any hoses disconnected.

I figured my 2002 Cruiser was due for a tune up as it experienced hard starting and a rough idle until it warmed up. I said hey what the heck do the timing belt too. To date I have replaced the timing belt, alt. Belt, air-conditioning belt, water pump, radiator, anti freeze, engine oil and filter, transmission oil, thermostat, spark plug wires, spark plugs, PCV Valve, EGR Valve, removed and cleaned the throttle body and removed cleaned and measured the IAC Valve then replaced all 4 fuel injectors. I still have a hard starting problem and a rough idle but now all the time.

If I had any money left I would not be here looking for a free answer.

Wow! You replaced just about everything. Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked the temp sensor?

Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My car has a shaky idle, almost like a misfire. The system is tossing a misfire code in cylinder 3 at the mechanics, I have paid to replace the plugs, wires, coils, and it has helped, however the dealer reccomened a compression test, and cylinder three was 125 and the other 3 were at 175, what does this mean? Is the repair possible? Are there anyother things that could be wrong with the car?

That is a bit low than the others
try a wet compression
and cylinder leak test
did you lose a timing belt and if so
suspect valve

How many miles are on your cruiser?

I agree with BMRFIXIT, Have them do the wet compression and cyliner leak down tests.

The chrysler 2.4lL is what is called an interferance engine, if the timing belt breaks the piston(s)can come in contact with the valve(s) and damage them.

I have also seen numerious head gasket and head warpage problems with the 2.4l engine. With a 50 pound difference between #3 and the other cylinders I would defiinately recommed futher diagnosis if your plan is to keep the vehicle.

Thank to BMRFIXIT for his good advice.

Hope this info helps, let us know what you find.

Thank you,

Dan

I started having trouble with my car yesterday. I drove it into a heated garage to let it warm up and to check for leaks. When I went to start it up to go out of the garage it began to idle very roughly and tends to jerk. I am wondering what this is and how to fix it.

HAs the check engine light come on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Fuel pump pressure? When was the last tune up?

Let me know.
