Blower wont work on lower speeds?

The AC/heater fan works on the highest setting number 5. I have replaced the A/C heater control head with hopes of correcting the issue. No luck. I am guessing there is a relay/resistor that is bad being the fan works on high. Any advise on where to look and how to check once located? I have checked all fuses and everything test okay.

Hi, to answer your question, the Blower Motor Resistor Module is located on the passenger side, under the dash, it is mounted in front of the blower motor. These are very common for going bad.

97 grand am 2.4 4cld ac and engine coolant fatn wont work and the blower fan for the ac and heater only blows on high. Fuses ok I think. Any sugestions?

There should be a resistor by the blower that controls the lower speeds. It will look like a little tiny box. Probe the wires on different speeds with a test light and if the test light lights the resistor is bad and needs replacing. It's anywhere from $30-70. It will take a 5 or 7 mm nuts to remove it. Not hard at all to fix.

Blower motor only blows in the first settings but not on high.I replaced the resister and it does the same. I can't get it to blow in the last setting.I checked all the fuses I'm getting ready to replace the relay but could use some advice first

With the key in the run position and the blower motor set to high. The brown wire the orange wire the dark blue and the purple wire should have battery voltage. Also the black wire to it should be ground?

I have a 1990 grand am le the heater and air only works on the high setting when I turn it down than nothing comes out does that mean I need a new blower motor or is it something else

Its your blower motor resistor that's causing the problem its job is to control the speed of the blower motor by using resistances.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE, 60,500 miles. When I bought the car fan level 1 only worked when the car was moving, same with level 2. Levels 3, 4 and 5 were fine. Slowly since then I have been losing levels.1, 2 and 3 no longer work at all. Since I lost level 3 I've been using level 4 and am noticing it's not as strong as it once was. The AC Is cold and the Heat is Hot, no problems there, just the fan.

Any ideas what it could be? I'm pretty handy so if it's something simple like a fuse or a belt I could probably fix that myself or else I'll have to call in a professional before winter comes and I lose any more levels!

I had the same problem with a pontiac grand prix. I took it to the shop and they said that the fan needed replaced. I did it myself. I also have a 1997 pontiac transport montana and 1, 2, 3 are also gone. I'll be replacing that as well.

Ok, this is a very common problem with the pontiacs. You have a Blower Motor Resistor that increases the resistance to the motor for each level of fan speed. If you go to High, or speed 5, this eliminates the resistor, and if the fan runs fast, then you know your fan is good. If the fan doesnt run good in the high position, then it may be the fan motor going bad.
However, if the fan runs good in high, then most likely the blower motor resistor is bad.
This is located between the blower motor and the firewall. It is screwed into the airstream of the ducting. All you will see is the connector and two screws. Remove those two and the assemplby will drop out of the duct.
Do not over torque the screws going back in. You can crack the new resistor and then you will be right back where you are now. The screw torque is 9 inch pounds.
All in all, this will not be a hard, nor expensive repair. Might I suggest getting the new parts from www. Gmpartsdirect. Com they will be a lot cheaper than the dealer, but they will be the exact parts the dealer uses.

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with 38,000 miles. Recently the heater/ac fan quit working on speeds 1 through 3. The heater/ac fan works fine on the higher speeds of 4 and 5.

Hmm, I dont really get your question, but I have a 91 integra LS. When I start my car in the cold my "fast idle" is 1500 RPM when full warm up my "curb idle" is 500 RPM. When you start your car in the cold your engine idles fast to warm up to operating temperature and drops down when warmed up.

I dont know what you mean by stop or turn off idling. Your car idles at a stop because your engine is always spinning, the only way to stop idle I guess is to shut off the car. :Wink:

Bigaldizzler is getting to the heart of the matter. The engine idle speed at warm should be around 650 to 750 rpm. If it gets warm and as you slow down it quits that is a problem, but you need to supply more info and if you read the before you post message you must tell us more about the car. I fail to understand how we can help. You take it to a mechanic and he knows the car because he sees it and he gets to listen, etc. I am no miracle worker. Sorry to dump on you but I like to assist people with their cars but info, feed me info.
