My wife's 2002 honda accord is throwing a code p1381 That is dicribed as a cylinder position sensor intermittent interruption. Now I am admittedly no where near as proficient with newer cars as I am with vintage pre-computer autos and motorcycles, and am currently at somewhat of an impasse. Apparently the sensor is built into the distributor, so that has been replaced, but the problem remains. I was told I should test the alternator, so I did. I tested that the battery was getting charging voltage and did a simple diode test from the post on the distributor to the distributor casing, and all seems to be fine in that neighborhood. Where are some other areas I should be looking for the cause of this code? Right now the car is in what seems to be in a limp mode where it won't exceed 3000 rpm. My wife is now driving my truck to work so I need to get this car fixed pronto, and of course being a guy who rebuilds old pickups and old Harleys she is looking to me to fix this. Thank you for any insight that could help.

If you replaced the sensor and it is doing the same, it is most likely in the wiring to the sensor. Check for poor connections, corrosion, damaged wiring.

My engine after running for 15 miles suddently develop trouble. Engine lit up. The engine will not completely stall but will decelerate once I reach 3000 rpm. It will chug 2-3 times, then, will run smoothly.

How much should I expect to pay if there is a cylinder problem like this.

Or Is this the real problem?

This is common when he ignition distributor starts to go out. Here is how you can replace it in the instructions and diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Hello,

Direct Trouble Code [DTC] P1381 is a DTC for the CYP sensor having an intermittent connection. In the diagrams down below I have included the diagnostic troubleshooting guide for DTC P1381 for your vehicle from the vehicle manufacturer. Please go through this guide and get to us with what you find out. You will need to use a Digital Multi-meter [DMM], so here is a link below explaining how to use one, if needed:

All codes are an indication of failures in systems. They all need to be checked by a shop for failures. Identifying failures from code numbers never works without proper diagnostics. Get a shop to check these for you to insure a safe trouble free trip.

P1381 †CYP intermittent interruption.
This is the code that can result in engine nonstarting and performance issues. It could be a loose or contaminated wire connector at the sensor. Highest priority on list you should be checking.

P1457 †Leak Detected In EVAP Control System. Not likely to cause any problelm other that emission. Could be due to a loose fuel cap.

P1738 - 2nd clutch pressure switch. Likely to cause shifting problem. Not to be taken lightly as it can result in transmission failure.
