Okay I own a 2001 grand am se two door. Back two months ago my car didnt want to start, so the tow truck guy told me what to do and that was to turn my ignition over for ten minutes and allow the security light to stop flashing. Now just the other night my car did this again, and I redid what I was told to do. But this time my security light is staying on. My owners manual indicates, if light does not turn off this means my car is not protected by passlock any longer, that was it. Should I be worried that this security light is on because I was told to just keep driving it.

GM anti-theft systems are much more effective at keeping owners out of their cars than most other systems. Yes you should be worried because you don't know where you'll be the next time it won't start. One fairly common problem is broken wires in the steering column, especially if you have tilt wheel. The Pass-Lock sensor also gives a lot of trouble. It is plugged into the ignition switch cylinder. As long as it keeps running, it should be fine. However, it may get to a point that it will no longer start.
