My daughter wrecked this car and both airbags deployed. I am trying to fix the car. There is power getting to the starter, but when you turn the key to start it the only thing that happens is the relay on the firewall makes a clicking sound. A local NAPA store said that some switch or switches had to be turned back on for the car to start since airbags went off. I checked the fuel pump relay in the trunk and it was still on. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it. Carl

There is no reset for the starter. Check for voltage at the starter terminal. Might have broken wire or bad starter motor.

I am trying to get a 1988 Ford Taurus 3.0 liter with 75,000 miles started. I have replaced the starter relay and no luck. Last week I had the starter wire disconnected from the relay and was wigging the ignition switch and got the on position to work. I the placed the startyer wire dirctly to the battery and got the car to start. I just replaced the Ignition switch (electrical part) and it still doesn't start. When the switch is turned to on the door lamp dims like ther is a short somewhere in the on and start positions, because the battery positive terminal gets hot. I am out of ideas.? Can any one help please?

You may need to go into the steering column on this short. I have seen electrical problems in the column on the older taurus models including the key cylinder switch.

On the 1988 Ford Taurus 3.0 liter with 75,000 miles started, thanks, please clarify, when you say the key cylinder switch do you mean the side where the key is inserted. It appears the single wire on this side is for a ground connection for all positions until you remove the key in lock, when the section drops down. Also when you say in the column where exactly are you pointing to? There are many wires in there ?

I apologize for not being specific. We ran into a couple that had wires that wore through. I just don't recall the specifics.
