REMOVAL PROCEDURE
NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL coolant. If coolant other than DEX-COOL is added to the system, the engine coolant will require change sooner: at 50 000 km (30,000 miles) or 24 months.
CAUTION: Refer to Batter Disconnect Caution in Y Service Precautions.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain and recover the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield,
Remove the coolant inlet housing bolt through the exhaust manifold.
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the coolant inlet housing stud from the oil pan.
Remove the second coolant inlet housing bolt.
Remove the coolant inlet housing.
Remove the thermostat.
Clean the mating surfaces.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Install the thermostat.
Install the inlet housing.
Install the gasket.
Install the coolant inlet housing bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).
Install the coolant inlet housing stud to oil pan.
Tighten the bolt to 26 Nm (19 ft. Lbs.).
Lower the vehicle.
Install the coolant inlet housing bolt through the exhaust manifold.
Tighten the bolt to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).
Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten the bolt to 16 Nm (12 ft. Lbs.).
Inspect the system for leaks.
