OMG! You guys are wonderful! With your help I was able to locate, remove and replace my thermostat. I did it! The information, photos and tutorial were perfect direction and made the process so much easier for me. In addition to learn how to, I also learned about tools for the car and how to improvise with what you do have on hand. Mostly importantly I learn my limitations also. (I have RA and hand strength is limited some days) I know nothing about cars and their parts or functions but I have a brain and willingness to learn. I can’t thank you enough and will always come to you before going to any mechanic again! I will tell you now and please share with all, I am a gramma trying to keep my vehicle on the road for myself and my granddaughter who uses it to get to and from school and work. I live on a very tight budget and you two have just saved us. Again thank you so very much. I will attempt to attach some photos of my work, again attempt is the key word. Should they go through they may not be in order.

I have got the old thermostat out but cannot seem to get the new one in. Which way should it be facing? And how can I remove the pipe housing without removing my exhaust manifold?

Hello,

I have the location and the guide on how to change your cars engine thermostat. Here is the guide to show you what you are in for when doing the job.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-thermostat

You should drain and flush the system as well.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/coolant-flush-and-refill-all-cars

Here is what it will be like on your car I have included both 4 and 6 cylinder engines just in case.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

Seems to be somewhere in the back of the engine. There isn't a traditional thermostat housing

The engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic. He told me the error message says I needed a thermostat?

I am attaching the process below from the manual however, here is a video from a blazer and while it is a different engine it is pretty similar.

https://youtu.be/5w14DkYn1bU

Plus here is a guide that will help with this in more general terms.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-thermostat

Lastly below is the process from the manual. Let us know if you have questions. Thanks
