I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 v8 5.9L and sometimes I will have to hold down the gas pedel to keep it running. It will not start if I dont hold down the gas pedal. Also it cranks over a lot before it starts.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Also, it could be an idle air control valve. Has the check engine light come on?

There is no check engine light on. But when I let it sit for an hour and try to start it again it will start but almost die but then the rpms come back and then almost die and come back up then it will idle. Then if try to start it after I just shut it off it will crank a lot and I will have to hold the gas for it to run but if I let go of the gas it will just die.
