If the check engine light is on, you need to have the computer scanned to identify what set the light in the first place. Once that is determines, you can reset the light with the scanner. Most people don't have a scanner, so go to a nationally recognized parts store and see if they will do it for you. Most will do it for free.
NOTE: After identifying the problem, it should be repaired. If you don't the light will most likely come back on within a short period of time.
