In July of this year our mechanic replaced our water pump and heater core. Today our windows were fogging up and we have no heat. Thermostat is working and there is no water on floor boards please help can't afford another 500.00 to fix the heater core.

No leaking hoses that we can see.

Please help me, I love this site, its has helped me so much :-)

Okay, with the engine running, hot, and the heater on high, feel both heater core hoses. Both should be hot. If they are, check the blend air door. It is near the heater core and is responsible for the air temp entering the vehicle. If only one hose is hot, you may want to try flushing the heater core to make sure it is not partially plugged.

Okay my husband says they are both hot and he has no idea what the blend air door is. Should we take the car back to the mechanic who replaced the heater core and water pump in july?

Yes, I would take it back. The blend air door is part of the HVAC system and is located under the dash near the heater core. The temp you get in the vehicle is based on how far it is open. If it isn't working, you will not get heat.

Since both hoses are hot, the heater core is working and not plugged. That is good.

Let me know what you find.

Check the heater control valve on the heater hose. There is a cable running to it. When u move from cold to hot. You will see the valve open and close. If the windows fog up its a signs of a leaking heater core. Look at the r/side underdash at the firewall youll see the drain hose check for signs of coolant inside and outside or on the drain hose.

The fogged up interior tells me the core is leaking. Ck the drain hose through the firewall. For signs of coolant in and out. Pull the r/side carpet up and look for coolant. Hook up a pressure tester pump it up and start looking.

They have no heat. I understand the fogged window, but nothing mentioned of film on glass or smell. The idea there is no heat leads me to believe it is the door. Could be wrong but that is what I feel is the problem they are having.

After reading all of your posts I realized I wasn't as specific with symptoms as I should have been, sorry. So here goes. In july of this year we had both water pump and heater core replaced. Yesterday, we noticed a film of steam on the windows, very luke warm air coming from vents on defrost and heat. No water on floor boards but the last time we had them repaired there was no water on floor boards either. Thermostat is working. Both hoses feel hot to my husband. No noises or smells that we can notice. We had a friend look at it and he couldn't find any leaking hoses. Temp is not going up but then again it's cold outside. We are taking it back to mechanic today but it cost us 500.00 last time and right now we just can't afford that. How long should these things last? Thanks again.

Okay so the garage isn't sure what's going on with my car. They looked at the blend door and it is working. They also said the water pump and heater core are working. They want to flush the heater core to see if there is a small leak. Wow really now what? So why else would we not have heat any ideas?

Is the fog causing the windshield to get a slippery residue on it? Also, if the heater core is flowing, the blend air door must be stuck. Double check that.
