My 1996 hilux 2.8d will not start in the morning or if left for 10 hours or more, once up to temp, it starts fine and cranks easily, confused.

When you mentioned not starting, do you mean it is cranking and not firing up or no crank at all?

Have the battery tested. Seems it is not maintaining charge for extended periods.

I ran the multi meter over the alternater, its producing 13.8v and checked the battery in the morning, [ for leakage ] it had 14v. The cells have water, it is afairly new, good quality battery. Through further research of this site, i'm thinking maybe it could be the glow plugs?

Faulty glow plug can cause difficult starting but it would not prevent the battery from cranking the starter.

The charging system seems good but it is weird that the battery is maintaining 14 vin the morning.

You're welcome.

By the way what is the battery size? I have seen many 70 AH batteries that don't seem sufficient for the engine especially in the morning, even with our tropical climate here.
