OK I had a loud rattle in the engine for a while it would get louder as the rpm increased and get softer once the gear changed and rpm lowered so one day it made the loudest rattle and it cut off in the street I rolled into a parking space and it was smoking a little I tried to get in contact with my folks to pick it up but was unsuccessful so I ended up driving it the rattle was louder than ever and when I idle the oil light would flicker and once in a while it would cut off but it would start back up I made it home and parked it because driving it was not going to help the problem well I went out to check on it and the battery was completely dead I mean no lights at all so I jumped it off and drove it for about 2 miles and it would cut off and wouldn't start without a jump so I figured it was the alternator or spark plugs so I replaced the spark plug and wires and drove it home fine no problem but still knocked and rattled but didn't turn off the next day I went to change the oil I went to the car and it was drained again so I ended up replacing the alternator with a used one and changed the oil it still would cut off when I drove for a about 2miles ID LIKE TO ADD THAT MY MOTHER WAS FORCING ME TO PUSH THE CAR LIKE THIS anyway one day I started my new job and I told her I needed a ride she said no drive yours ill jump it in the morning so she jumped it I went on to work half way there it made a loud noise and cut off and I had to park it on the side of the rode I went on the work after work they came to jump it off as usual but it would charge so we got a new alternator and battery and gave it a crank but it wouldn't start it and smoke came out the engine now my moms boyfriend who has Ben working on it is sayin it the starter I told em no you guys made me run this car into the ground and it has engine damage now because of it. But he insist that its the starter I told him not to touch it and I would figure out myself and get it fixed myself. Please help and tell me what to do to get my baby back on the road and well enough to make it to Florida.

I will try to help, but it doesn't sound good. Was the knocking coming from the engine? If so, I would say the main bearings are out of the engine because you mentioned the oil light was coming on. You replaced the alt and the battery, correct? And you mentioned that it is still going dead. Are you sure the used alt you got is any good? At this point, I would recommend you remove the starter, alt, and battery and take all of them to a parts store to have them bench tested. Most parts stores will do it for free. Then we will have an idea as to why the battery keeps going dead. Once we figure that out, then we can focus on the engine itself. But I will warn you, if the knock was from the engine, chances are it is spent and will either need replaced or rebuilt.

Let me know.
