I've noticed a similar issue, however I would always check the thermostat if if it were not for the temperature gauage showing accurate. Typically when a thermostat goes it stuck open thus the coolant never stays in the engine to absorb the engine heat, hence no hot water equals no hot air. But my gauge is showing correct temperatures.
